Deep Tech Momentum: What EVG had to do with it!

There is a question that every founder building in deep tech eventually faces: you have the technology, you have the conviction, and you have the proof. So why is getting it to market still this hard? Martin Schilling and Isabelle Simon asked that question and instead of waiting for someone else to answer it, they built the room where the answer lives.

Deep Tech Momentum is Europe's number one Deep Tech and Al Innovation Marketplace and what Martin and Isa have built is not just an event. It is a precision-engineered commercial ecosystem where founders, investors, and enterprise buyers show up ready to move. 3,000 attendees. 20,000 curated one-on-one meetings. Over 500 million euros in investments and 500 proof-of-concept partnerships facilitated to date.

DTM26 took place on May 20 and 21 at Wilhelm Studios in Berlin and by every measure, it delivered. DT measures success the way all great events should: in contracts signed, pilots launched, and rounds closed. Day 1 opened with the 1% Pledge - 100 European corporate CEOs committing to channel 1% of their procurement to European startups. Two German federal ministers took the stage, including Karsten Wildberger and Dorothee Bär. The Deep Tech Award went to Six Robotics. And a high-level session with McKinsey and Deutsche Börse tackled how to 10x the European deep tech ecosystem - with state and corporate buyers as the anchor.

When we asked Martin and Isa about their experience with EVG, their answer said everything about what this community is actually for.

"We asked EVG: what are the top 3 decisions to get right when you build world-class events? Their answer: there are not 3, there are 1,000. And then they taught us every single one. DT would not be where it is today without EVG. They gave us the architecture to run curated innovation marketplaces and precision matchmaking at a globally best-practice level."

On working with the EVG investor group day to day, they described it simply: super responsive operators who can answer both the 10,000-mile strategic questions and the small tactical ones, right down to where to place a button on your website. And on what surprised them most: they did not just gain investors. They gained friends. Several EVG investors became genuine friends along the way and that was not something they anticipated when they signed the term sheet.

For founders thinking about applying, Martin and Isa left one piece of advice: operators-turned-investors are really the key and EVG proves it. If you get the chance, take it.
